"The signature Straight Rye Whiskey from Overholt has increased to a 4-year age statement (from 3 year old, which has been discontinued). The 4 year age statement pays homage to Overholt’s 1942 original age statement and marks a return to the liquid’s historical roots. Simple nose comprised of corn and oak notes with slight honey influence. Palate is of equal sublet sweetness, with wood and spice predominating its flavor profile, only to fade into a sweet, long finish. TASTING NOTES Aromas of deep rye spices and pepper, mixed with apple and floral notes and a hint of vanilla and leather. The palate is full-bodied with a balance of black pepper, spice, coffee, char, and deep, dark fruits, concluding with a balanced and flavorful finish. Nose: Stingy and sour rye develops into sweet, sugary rye. Hints of corn and fruity notes. Taste: Rough and bitter rye with spices. Gets smoother and sweeter with time. Turns into gingery rye. Finish: Like sour and mildly spicy rye bread. Pepper rises nicely very late in the aftertaste. Balance: Harsh at first but when given time, this straight rye whiskey becomes decent."
