Rare Perfection 10 Year Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey — Vintage 2016
Rare Perfection 10 Year is an exceptionally well-rounded and composed bourbon, bringing together mature fruit, sweetness and texture without any one element overpowering the rest.
What immediately stands out is the viscosity. It has a rich, coating mouthfeel that carries the flavors beautifully across the palate. Vanilla leads the sweeter side, while layers of stone fruit, apple and pear give the whiskey a bright, mature fruit character.
Apple and pear continue to develop as the whiskey opens, eventually bringing to mind cinnamon applesauce: cooked apple, baking spice and a touch of natural sweetness wrapped in mature bourbon character.
Nose: Vanilla, ripe stone fruit, fresh apple, pear and soft baking spice.
Palate: Rich and viscous with vanilla, orchard fruit and layers of apple and pear. Cinnamon begins to build alongside the fruit, developing into a delicious cinnamon-applesauce character.
Finish: Lingering orchard fruit, vanilla and warming cinnamon spice with mature oak providing structure and balance.
Compared with more aggressive or oak-driven older bourbons, RP10 is the all-rounder. It's remarkably put together, with fruit, sweetness, oak and texture working in harmony.
